Chalkboard

Did I mention we had a busy weekend? Well, one of the things we did was to go yard sale-ing in the neighborhood. We saw an old classroom chalkboard for $40 and thought, "Hey that's cool" and then went on our merry way.

Well, after a trip to Michael's and some google searching, we realized that the giant door-like chalkboard was a pretty good deal. The next day, we went back to the house where the sale was and saw that the chalkboard was still there. We offered them $20, and voila the chalkboard was ours!

Now we have to decide how to best use it for the wedding. It's about 6 ft by 3.5 ft. We were thinking about using it to direct people to their tables, but we also wanted to write the menu on a chalkboard. Could we do both with this? Any other ideas?

This photo was taken right after we washed the board, so it isn't all shiny splotchy like in the picture. I should say that the random snowboard binding in the foreground was purchased at the GI Joe's going out of business sale for $16! New Burton Freestyles, and they were practically free!

I think the menu idea is great - especially if it is written up like a little alpine cafe/bistro. What a cute idea!

i just had a vision. i like the upright approach to the giant chalkboard. (horizontal, i think it's too big and school-like.) i the bottom third won't be much good for information (too low to easily read), but it could be good for some chalked art. we can try to mimic the art your invitiations, which are also narrow and tall.

the menu would definitely work on the board (eye-level). table assignments written in chalk might be too much text, though you could attach a couple of print-outs of the assignments (just below the menu).

think it will work? :)

I like the vision Jen! I was thinking that we should just keep one thing to the board as well.

I don't know if there is enough menu information to make it feel like the board is full... but maybe we could do one board with table info and another smaller board with menu info?

And you are a genius with the invitation idea. I was going to see if I could find a chalk artist on Craigslist to maybe do a mountain silhouette, but you're exactly right, we should pull in the invitation image!

Brilliant! (Do you have the keys yet?)
